A soak pit is a covered, porous-walled chamber that allows water to slowly soak into the ground. Pre-settled effluent from a collection and storage/treatment or semi- centralized treatment technology is discharged to the underground chamber from which it infiltrates into the surrounding soil. It helps in  recharging ground water and increasing the ground water level using waste water which cannot be used and it can be constructed with most of the available household and some basic hardware. Many cities all around the world too, are facing water scarcity, not only in the summers, but throughout the year. Soak pit recharge tends to increase the ground water level. The water level in bores and wells increases automatically.
